Females
Gold
(Image WIP)
Golds are the original Queens of the Weyr. They are always female, and always impress to heterosexual females. Golds are the largest dragons in the Weyr, and once mature, golds grow to be 38-42 feet in length, with a wingspan of 63-70 feet. Goldriders become the Weyrwomen, whether Sr. or Jr. ones. Golds tend towards commanding airs, and can be a tad on the temperamental and prideful side, though it is not as if they do so on purpose. Not all fit this criteria, however. Many are just the opposite. Golds can not chew firestone. Doing so would cause them to become nauseated and regurgitate it. However, many strange changes have occurred in the last two centuries. Golds rise to mate once or twice a year, and are usually flown by bronze, titanium and on the rare occasion a larger brown. However, if a brown is the victor, there will be no chance of a gold in the clutch, though a bronze or two may emerge. Gold flights usually last 30-60 minutes, and the better a flight is, the larger a clutch will result. This is why a gold is not permitted to do more than blood 1-3 animals before rising, as feeding on them would weigh her down and shorten the flight. The clutches of a gold are usually 15-25 eggs. They tend to impress to girls who have good leadership qualities, or have the potential within them to become good leaders. These girls have a good head on their shoulders and often have unique personalities. The only gold that can command other golds is the Sr. Queen. The rest of the golds don’t listen to any other gold, since all goldriders become Jr. Weyrwoman upon impression.
Indigo
(Image WIP)
In comparison to Golds, Indigos are somewhat smaller and their builds are more lean in appearance. They grow to be 36-38 feet in size with wingspans of 61-68 feet in length. They rise to mate only once in a turn, and are usually chased by bronze, titanium and brown. They lay approximately 8-15 eggs in a clutch, yet some are fighting dragons and chew firestone rather than clutch when clutching dragons are not needed. If they stop chewing, in a few months time the regain the ability to clutch once more. Indigo dragons are very level headed and very much like browns in personality. However, unlike browns they tend to be more reserved and would prefer to bother with their rider and those their rider is close to. They are protective and secretive, often with 'quirks' or habits that they seem to stick to compulsively. They are clever dragons with a knack for learning quickly and their memories are decent so far as dragons go. In threadfall they are hardy and determined dragons, keeping their heads about them and seeming undaunted even in the worst of falls. They tend to be passive dragons capable of solving problems rather than causing them, but if angered they are a force to be reckoned with. They are not proud dragons, but they do have pride, especially where their bonded is concerned. They are a solid support to their riders, always capable of bringing something to the table, as it were, in the duo.
Copper
(Image WIP)
Coppers are a female dragon the size of browns, growing to 30-35 feet with wingspans of 50-58 feet in length. Coppers do not clutch. They usually favor browns when being chased, though a larger blue or anything the size of one has an equal chance. Coppers are good thread fighters, being more agile than their larger kin, and having more stamina to last a full Fall due to their size. Coppers have a very wiry, muscular build, and are strong dragons who can carry a lot more weight than one would imagine. The Copper is a loud dragon, always putting its two cents in, whether others want it to or not. It doesn't like being told what to do, and often resents authority. They can be unreasonably stubborn but they are also courageous and daring. They always speak their minds, and are known for knowing more than they should. Coppers tend to have tempers to them, ferocious warriors of their Weyr. They are quick to anger and slow to trust, with phenomenal strategic and tactical sense. Their speed and aerial maneuvers are as impressive as the greens even though they are marginally larger than them. Watching them in the air is invigorating. They will try out anything, brave and adventurous and seemingly fearless. Give them something to fight and they throw themselves into it wholeheartedly. In a fall they are the most ferocious opponents of Thread, for their eagerness to destroy it burns hotter in their blood than any. They are fearsome if they or their bond is threatened, and even a bronze is wary of a copper who means to attack, even if they could overcome it by size they would not get away without injuries-a copper will fight until it can no longer stand. They are determined and never give up on something they've put their mind to, but can also be overly impulsive and therefore get themselves and their riders into tough binds-or even trouble with superiors. They aim to impress, and though they aren't flirts they are showy dragons who know their strengths and flaunt them without a care.
Crimson
(Image WIP)
Crimson dragons are the female version of the male red. Crimsons do not clutch. They are primarily fighting dragons like greens, and yet only rise once per turn unlike their flightier green kin. Their size ranges from brown to copper, so a wider range than many of their fellows. Crimsons are not usually sociable dragons, rather they are unpredictable and their personalities tend to be egotistical and prideful. A queen in a smaller dragon's body, as it were. They do not easily respect those who have not earned that respect, and their are particular about whom they befriend. They almost seem to bear a certain disdain for the metallic kin, believing that egg laying dragons are of less use, even though in truth without them there would be no dragons. It is simply a superiority complex that varies in extreme from one crimson to the next. They are stubborn and willful and it takes someone equally stubborn and willful to work with them. Truth be told, they are a huge advantage in fighting thread, with a moderate size that allows for them to last a full fall. Crimsons have rather exciting flights. They can be quite violent and last surprisingly long for a non-clutching dragon. Unlike many dragons, crimsons actually seem to tend to choose dragons they have a rapport with before the flight rather than simply the biggest or strongest. Whoever Impresses one should be in for a wild ride.
Lavender
(Image WIP)
Lavender is the given name for the light purple female dragons that seem to be the female variation of blues. Their size range is the same, from 25-30 feet, with wingspans of 42-50 feet. Still, they aren't mistaken for blues. A lavender is a beautiful dragon with a more feminine build, seeming to vary a little in darkness or lightness of coloration, but all seeming to shift from blue to purple as they move. Lavenders rarely clutch. However, it's not due to it being impossible, and they could clutch 3-6 eggs. It's merely that it doesn't happen that often during their lives. They rise to mate 1-2 times in a turn, and can be caught by anything that will give chase. Lavenders are often unpredictable dragons. However, they are intelligent and sharp-witted, learning quickly and priding themselves on it. They are often prone to playfulness and mischief, and are known for being almost overly protective of their riders to the point of being too defensive regarding them. Along with this, they seem to be very outspoken. They are sociable enough but quick to judge--often too quick. Perhaps this is because their intuition is very accurate. Usually their judgment calls are correct, though not always one hundred percent. Even with other dragons, or creatures. Girls who impress these are varied, but one thing stands true: they are all different in some integral way or another, for the Lavenders like complex personalities and bonds who intrigue them.
Green
(Image WIP)
Greens are the smallest of the five original colors of dragons. Greens grow to be 20-25 feet in length, with a wingspan of 33-42 feet. They are by far the most ample of the thread fighting force, due to their top notch agility and speed, as well as flight abilities. There are always greens in a wing, though not the Queen's wing. Greens are also rarely scored unless thread falls the wrong way, or weather is not good when it does-or unless they or their rider is careless. Greens do chew firestone, and don't ever lay a clutch. They rise more often than golds, about 3-4 times a turn, and Kitti Ping made it so that they couldn't clutch, just as golds supposedly can't flame. It should be noted, however, that the smaller greens can not last an entire pass, and either need to take a break or be replaced by another green during a fall. Greens are known for being flirtatious, emotional and proddy dragons. They speak their mind, and are often impulsive, wanting to do everything at once so sometimes harder to teach. Still, they are the life of the Weyr, amusing and fearless, bold and outgoing. With every rule there is an exception or two, but greens tend to bond to more outgoing individuals who generally are non-judgmental and often flirtatious.
Fuschia
(Image WIP)
Impression: Hetero females, Homo males
Fuschias are a welcome dragon in any Weyr. Though they are usually a couple feet under greens and above the size of a white or black, they still are pretty much the same capability as greens, with one big difference. Fuschia can not clutch. These are very thoughtful and friendly dragons. They don't let their smaller stature stand in the way of their duty to the Weyr and are the first to show bravery and the last to give up. They are optimistic and sure to be the life of any party, retaining a rather young and playful nature past Weyrlinghood. They will be their rider's light in the darkness, and the ones to have the most outstanding and crazy ideas in a pinch. They are creative and their quirks are such that they actually seem to enjoy music and art, and pay much attention to the beauty in the world around them. Stopping and sniffing the flowers is something a fuschia will never let you forget to do from time to time. They are talkative, but you do get your shier and quieter ones from time to time even if most are not. They have a lot of pride and don't let others undermine them, eager to prove themselves a match for any color or size.
Males
Bronze
(Image WIP)
Bronzes are the largest of the original male dragons, growing to be 35-38 feet in length, with wingspans of 58-63 feet in length. Bronzes only impress to heterosexual males, with no exceptions. They are usually the ones to chase the golds and the larger the rare Aurora in mating flights, and therefore their riders may end up as a Weyrleader if their bronze catches the Sr. Queen. Bronze dragons tend to be confident and proud dragons, sure of themselves, their abilities, and their riders. Bronzes are slower than the smaller browns, and much smaller and more agile blues, but they are still good threadfighters, and usually their riders are leaders of a Wing. They have a great amount of strength and stamina that more than makes up for the speed difference and agility level. Bronzes tend to impress braver souls who may or may not be inclined to show the type of leaders and people they are. Sometimes they impress to more arrogant and overconfident types, while other times they surprise everyone with whom they choose, usually bringing out that person's inner abilities through their bond. Usually the dragon always knows, and their riders tend towards a good sense of responsibility and leadership-even if at first they may not show these traits to others around them.
Titanium
(Image WIP)
Titanium dragons are in between the size of a bronze and brown. They are extremely difficult to deal with dragons. They are often described as having a 'darker' type of personality, aiming always to be the strongest and the best, and to prove they can outdo even their flame and bronze kin. They are overly proud and seem to think themselves the betters of all other dragons. They are cunning and quick witted, faster than a bronze in flight, with the stamina of one. They don't hesitate to fly a gold or aurora. They can be violent when chasing and they actually seem to be perfectly fine with battling other dragons. If there is 'dirty work' to be done, one can be sure a titanium will not balk to do it. True they are usually loyal and staunch dragons, but that loyalty is reserved for their rider--not necessarily their Weyr. They like to work things to their own advantage and they expect to be respected as much as any flame or bronze would be. They don't take kindly to insults and often have very quick tempers. They tend to think less of the chromatic dragons, and do best when given a role that they can feel they are leading something, controlling something. In that situation they will put their team first, but if they are stuck as a follower they will always strive for better, always push their limits and their commander. Still it is far better to have a titanium at your back, than behind your back, as it were. They do not make good enemies, needless to say. They require very strong minded riders to control them, and they only Impress to those who are such, often physically for some as well as mentally. They are a no nonsense dragon with a dry sense of humor. On the plus side, they are a very good addition so far as getting things done in the right setting.
Browns
(Image WIP)
Browns are the third largest male dragon on Pern. They reach the size of 30-35 feet in length when mature, with a wingspan of 50-58 feet. More agile and common than the bronzes, the larger browns may try for a gold in a flight, though it is very rare that they are the victor, as the bronzes possess more stamina. However, if a brown does win, his rider will become Weyrleader if their dragon catches the Sr. Queen. Browns only impress to heterosexual males, though there is rumored to be an incident where females have impressed a brown. Not too much is known about this at the time, save that it can occur on the rare occasion. Brownriders can be Wingleaders and make good Weyrlingmasters. Because of their down to earth, tactful and logical natures, they are sought out as Wingseconds, keeping the impulsive side of some of the dragons in check. They are great advisers and very loyal and staunch dragons who are well rounded in their personalities. tIn personality, browns tend to be down to earth with well rounded personalities. Most browns tend to prefer to chase dragons who are not golds, but the larger ones may feel up to the chase. The riders of browns tend to be sincere persons who are more down to earth and capable of responsibility, logical decisions and being well rounded individuals. They are generally likable and non-judgmental persons, loyal friends and sought out by others for their friendship and advice.
Red
(Image WIP)
Reds are hard dragons to pin, as it were. They span a range of sizes from brown to titanium. They are definitely lively dragons. They have a quick mind and quicker tongues, always putting in their two cents whether it is wanted or not. Outwardly they seem to be sociable enough dragons who enjoy drama, to put it nicely. Anywhere something is going on, a red wants to be. A battle, a gather, an uprising...if it is of interest, a red will usually want to take part. It is often that a red will choose a side, and then decide the other side is more interesting. They tend to be creatures drawn to chaos, and it is never certain if they are the ones causing it, or solving it--likely a bit of both! They like a good threadfall or fight, thrilling in testing their limits and seeing what they can get away with. They can be brash and brazen but are fiercely loyal to their rider, their comrades and depending on the red their Weyr in general. They don't really like to be bored, which means that they often find themselves in troublesome situations, or wanting to travel about rather than stay in one place, yet they are very protective of the place they call home. They are flirtatious dragons, and very given to chasing just about anything they can catch that rises, though they can be fairly particular. Their riders will often be given to being a bit more carefree with a stubborn and yet strong personality. Charismatic individuals or unusual individuals are more like than not to end up with a red. Because of this, both males and females of any sexuality stand a chance to Impress a red.
Azure
(Image WIP)
Azure are one of the most startlingly lovely dragons to lay eyes on. Their color is bright and eye catching, their build very uniform and lithe. They are a touch bigger than blues but never bigger than the smallest brown in size. They were at first thought to be blues, but this idea was dismissed after they announced that they were not. Azures are not as responsible as blues, nor do they seem to take things as seriously as others. One could say they are closer to the fuchsia in personality, but they are often slacking off duties and would prefer to sleep, swim or play pranks and require a really level headed and persistent kind of person to keep them on task. They are terrible flirts, and are very odd in that it doesn't seem to matter to them what species they flirt with. Human, or dragon, it's all fair game. They like to tease their riders and others and don't seem to have a good filter for what they should and shouldn't say. This is surprising, for underneath all this they are really very smart--eerily so--and always seem to know exactly what's going on around them. They do like gossip and like to be in the know, and they enjoy socializing to the extreme. They hate to be alone, and will actively seek out the companionship of others. They make a good friend to anyone who will have them, but they seem to be a tad naive in that they can't seem to tell when they've offended or annoyed someone. Their riders always have their hands full, and it is up to them to have to apologize for the mishaps of their overtly friendly and outgoing dragons.
Blue
(Image WIP)
Blue are the smallest of the original male colors, but not to be undermined. They are 25-30 feet in length with a wingspan of 42-50 feet. Blues will never try for a gold in flight, it would be impossible for one to win. Instead, they prefer to chase greens and other smaller dragons, whom they seem more interested in anyhow. Blues are more agile and quick in the air than either bronzes or browns, though they can lack the stamina of their larger kin. However, they are indispensable when it comes to fighting thread, as they are less likely to receive a scoring unless they or their riders are not careful. They can often get what others miss, and are agile enough to dodge better. Blues tend to be intellectual and thoughtful, though as for every dragon this is not guaranteed. They impress to heterosexual boys and sometimes girls of questionable sexual preferences, though these girls may be heterosexual as well. The people they impress to usually seem to have a good head on their shoulders, no matter what the outside personality of that person may be. They are often thinkers and dreamers, with good imaginations and a love of a craft they prefer and learning. Blues themselves like to learn and observe, and are both patient and intelligent, as well as gaining wisdom through listening to others and learning from experience.
Grey
(Image WIP)
Impression: Hetero males, Homo females, Rare bisexual
Unusual is the operative word used to describe grey dragons. They are quiet, hardcore realists, and not at all social butterflies. They will only usually answer questions directly asked of them, and while they are very talkative and outgoing with their own riders seem to prefer to keep it at that. True that they may form bonds with those not their rider, but that is always only if it is something their rider has sought to do. They are the same size as fuchsias and while they do chase, it is not a common thing for them. They only chase those dragons belonging to persons their rider has an interest in or a close friendship with. It makes for either a good or inconvenient situation depending on which this is. They are very dutiful and take their tasks quite seriously. If not for their small size and dislike of socialization they would make good leaders. As is they usually prefer to follow the lead of others and protect their riders above all else. They are no cowards but confrontation is something they try to avoid at all costs, and they strive to keep their riders free of it as well. They are not diminutive and if attacked first can and will fight back. If their rider is in danger, one might forget that they are facing a grey. A grey is wise more than he is intellectual most of the time. He is of average intellect but seems wise beyond his Turns, giving the most sage advice and benefiting his rider greatly. A grey likes solving problems but does not like to be directly involved in them. They are very unusual, and often surprise people with quirks that develop in their personalities when least expected. Their riders are often people who need a 'balancing' factor in their lives. People who are extremists in one way or another, people who are confused about life or themselves, or who have undergone some trials of great measure. They are quite impressive dragons. When fighting thread they are so intent on keeping their riders safe that they are among the least likely to ever suffer from scoring. They are meticulous and put the safety of their rider and their rider's well being above all else.
Both
White
(Image WIP)
Whites are the rarest, smallest, and perhaps the strangest of all the original dragons. Whites are too weak to break out of their shells, and therefore many die without even hatching. However, those that sense their bondeds on the sands and call out may be saved. Only whites that are helped to hatch by their lifemate survive. Only three whites have ever hatched on Pern, and two of them at Dark Moon, known already for its unusual mutations. Whites are male and therefore impress to males. The issue with white dragons and mating is not that they couldn't do so-it seems to be they have no interest in it. As if that part of them never matures, even though they can take some enjoyment out of the sexual bonds their partner chooses. Whites do not clutch. Whites maintain a small size, with the smallest being 16-18 feet while the largest reach about 20, the smallest size for a green. Because of their small size, they are very slim and very fast, and wonderful at fighting thread. They are faster and more agile than greens, even, but their downfall is that they can't last a full pass without rest or being switched out.
Whites are renowned for their innate capability to 'time it'. A white always knows when and where it is in time. Therefore, they are the most logical to send back out of all the dragons. Whites also seem to be accompanied by firelizards. All of their little kin seem to have an affinity for them, and even the wild ones will often come to hang around, or help bathe him. They seem to like the firelizards as well, though it can be a nuisance when they just pop in and out constantly-especially for the rider. Those that ride whites can only expect to be Wingriders. A whiterider is usually a really easygoing and down to earth person, who is kind and compassionate but has their own interesting quirks. They have the leadership capability but will never be leaders, and therefore they strive to do whatever they can to be of use and help.
Black
(Image WIP)
It is said that whites were a mistaken result of all the colors somehow combining into one genetic mutation. When a white moves in especially bright sunlight, oftentimes one catches many glimpses of other colors in its hide, like when a bubble is blown and the transparency shows a 'rainbow' on it. Blacks are thought to be the dark end of the white spectrum. They are identical in their small size, being from 16-18 feet, the largest of them chancing to reach 20. Their personalities are vastly different, however. Unlike whites, they don't possess the innate ability to 'time it' in location and time. Instead, they possess long and photographic memories, never forgetting a location once they've seen it once. They don't try hard to impress anyone or anything except their own riders. They feel they have nothing to prove and accept their small stature with aplomb, loving that they can out fly other dragons in their speed, and possessing the stamina of a green, unlike their white counterparts. There is another difference between whites and blacks, as well: black males will try to catch a green in a flight, and black females will rise once in a blue moon, usually once a turn, if that. The other oddity about the black female is that it will only clutch 1-3 eggs each time it flies. These eggs never hatch out anything but blacks and whites, and perhaps a multi-color but since they are so rare, it is hardly likely. In personality, a black doesn't seem to draw flitts-it seems to like whers better! It will bespeak whers, sun with whers, and generally just likes the draconian kin as they seem to like it. They have a great sense of humor, and a carefree attitude, but they are quite empathic and they will do anything to please their riders. They usually always impress to males, and the female black is rarer than the male black. However, if a black ever chooses a female, she will be very tomboyish and unique in personality.
Multi-Color
(Image WIP)
No dragon on Pern is as rare as the Multi-Color. They, too, are a genetic mishap, only unlike the black and white, who shine with the colors like a bubble in the light, they are every color, in many shades, their hides like a magnificent painting. Their size is the same as the black and white, 16-18 feet, the rare one 20 feet, and while they don't possess the abilities of either, they are instead empaths. They can pick up on feelings of others, as surely as if that person were broadcasting them to the world. Through them, their rider becomes equally empathic, being able to feel the feelings of others around them. It is an interesting talent-one with seems to allow the rider and dragon to act as 'truth detectors' of sorts. While whites get along with flitts, and blacks get along with whers, multis seem to be liked by almost all other dragons! They tend to cater to them and like their company, meaning that their rider will have good friends amongst his fellows! The memory ability that mutis possess is the ability to remember everything their rider has ever seen or learned in their lifetime. Meaning even if their rider doesn't remember it? They will. It's uncertain what kind of person they impress, as they are such a rarity. They don't rise to mate or clutch, just as the whites, but they do take an interest in the relationships of their bonds.
