Females
Gold
(Image WIP)
As with dragons, gold whers are the largest female and the queens of the species. A gold wher is even harder to handle than a gold dragon in many ways. They are creatures of instinct and demand respect based on their color and expect it. When it is not given, no matter the size or age of the gold, they will respond by proving why they should have it. The clutches of whers are much smaller than dragons, and a gold wher will clutch between 8-13 eggs, once per turn. They run once per turn, and are caught by bronze, iron, and large browns or the rare exceptionally large scarlet. They are fiercely protective of their eggs and their handlers. They only bond to individuals they feel are worthy of them, and strong enough to handle them. Building a bond with them is harder than most other whers.
Turquoise
(Image WIP)
Turquoise are the next largest female wher, and also capable of clutching though they do not clutch gold whers and their clutches are smaller even than a gold's, at 5-7 eggs on average. They also run once a turn, and are caught by bronze, iron, browns and scarlet. They are also very fierce, just as golds, and harder to handle and work with. They tend to be more prone to thought than many golds, and use their sharp minds to get their way. They are the size of a bronze, and not to be taken lightly as they will challenge any wher, including a gold, though they defer to the senior gold and respect her position. They like to bond with strong individuals whom they feel they can be on equal standing with, or that are smart enough to not be totally controlled by them.
Magenta
(Image WIP)
Magenta are the third largest female, at the size of large browns. They are far different from their two larger colored kin. They are calmer, and seem more calculated and able to control their volatile natures than any other color of wher. They do not clutch, yet have a keen interest in younger whers. They are capable of being caught by any color save coal. They bond to people they find interesting, with no real select reason as they have their own reasons for finding whom they choose interesting.
Copper
(Image WIP)
Copper whers are on the side of larger blue whers. They are unpredictable, temperamental, purely instinct-driven whers whose size lends them great speed and reaction time. They rely on speed and tactics in fighting and are a force to be reckoned with despite that they are not as large as a gold or turquoise. They love battle, rather than merely doing so for a reason, they are eager to fight and protect their Weyr, handler and any they feel they must with a ferocity that is downright frightening at times. They do not clutch, and a very large coal or any other color may catch them. A strong handler is needed to control them, lest they go into a berserk mind frame and can otherwise not be called off.
Green
(Image WIP)
Greens are the second smallest among wher-kind. Though they are capable of having 1-4 egg clutches, it is rare and not a common thing to occur, happening only once in a blue moon. For whatever reason, through tampering likely, it happens so little that no one really expects it to when it does. Greens are much like green dragons. They have tempers, are demanding, proddy and run 2 times per turn, and often do not think things through before acting. Any color may catch a green. They are varied in whom they bond to, and they are varied in personality save that many share core traits.
Violet
(Image WIP)
Violet whers are the smallest, and like their coal brethren, do not fight unless it is needed. They are perhaps the most capable of using speed and their minds in battle out of all the female whers, and are surprisingly confident, and assured of themselves and their abilities. One would think that being small would place the other whers at an advantage. Yet this is so far from the truth as to astound most. They do not clutch, though they run once per turn, and are most commonly caught by coals or blues. They need a handler able to utilize their small size and sharper minds. They have surprisingly clear speech for whers, and longer memories than most. Clearly they are gifted to make up for their smaller size.
Males
Bronze
(Image WIP)
Bronzes are the largest of the male whers, and much like the golds will fight to earn the respect they feel is rightly theirs. They defer to both gold and turquoise, though primarily gold. They are ferocious and capable of doing great damage. Slower than the smaller whers, they are built like tanks and hard to take down. They need strong handlers capable of controlling them, just as with golds. They bond to only those they feel capable of this, though often with surprising results. They can chase any female they choose, yet primarily seek to chase the two queen colors capable of clutching, as they are instinctively driven to claim the leadership rights as the queen's mates.
Iron
(Image WIP)
Irons are not much smaller than their bronze kin. In build they are still strong but tend to be leaner and muscular, adding more speed to their ability than bronzes or even browns. Yet they are still tanks in their own right, and perhaps harder to take down than either due to their increase in speed. They are a mirror to turquoise, being more cunning and being able to better control their ferocity and to think before acting rather than purely relying on instinct. They are capable of catching golds and any other female, and even producing a gold egg in turn. They do not defer to bronzes any more than they do to any other save gold and turquoise, and are very competitive by nature. They are very protective of their handlers and tend to be far more solitary than is even the normalcy for whers. They like strong individuals with sharp minds, and enjoy battle and proving themselves and their worth, of which they are very assured. They can be arrogant and like challenges.
Brown
(Image WIP)
Like brown dragons, the third largest wher color are more reasonable, calm and thoughtful than bronzes or irons, though no less ferocious and able to react by instinct than any other color. They are sturdy tanks just like bronzes, capable of dishing out and taking a lot of damage while sacrificing speed for strength. They are more reasonable and less prone to violence, quicker to overlook trespasses and quite confident in themselves and knowledgeable of their own strengths, but also their own weaknesses. They like strong bonds as well, but prefer those bonds to be level headed also.
Scarlet
(Image WIP)
Scarlet are just like coppers in many respects. They are the size of smaller browns, and yet they are leaner, faster, and by far the most volatile of the male wher colors. They, like coppers, need especially strong handlers, for they are stubborn, enjoy fighting, driven more by instinct and can go into a berserk frenzy in battle. Blood-lust is a problem with scarlets that only their handler can control, as if anyone tries to break up a fight between a scarlet and its opponent, it may turn on them as well as the wher or creature it is battling. They are very one-person creatures, and most do not care for the company of any save their bond, whom they constantly tend to challenge. They are not an easy wher to bond, yet their loyalty and driven natures, their speed and their battle capabilities are to be admired.
Blue
(Image WIP)
Blues are quite level headed and a more easy going wher. They know their abilities, know their places, and are among the male whers more capable of thinking and planning than all colors save the coal. They are protective and have desirable natures. Most are easy to control and form strong, steady bonds with their handlers. They have good minds, good instincts, and are often more sociable and tolerant. They are still whers, though, and that should not be forgotten. They are still fearsome in battle and the second fastest of the male whers. They are tactical and follow instructions, loyal and capable. Blues are often placed in positions where a steady wher is needed and are valued as good fighters and bonds. They likewise prefer the brave of heart and strong of mind.
Coal
(Image WIP)
The smallest of the male whers, coals still should not be underestimated. Like their violet female kin they do not feel the need to fight unless necessary or ordered to do so, yet they possess the greatest speed and capability for using their minds and bodies in battle. Unlike violets, coals feel the need to prove themselves. They are bold and brazen and seem to fear nothing, and want to show their worth to their handlers, to other whers, and the Weyr. Their personalities are quite varied and while some are talkative and social, others are reclusive and want nothing to do with anything save their bonded. They bond a variety of people, but like those that are more humble in personality and yet not cowardly.
Both
Albino
(Image WIP)
Albinos are a rarity, and the smallest of whers. They are either male or female, and often looked upon by other whers as lesser, or as a wher that ought to have been culled as they used to do with greens before they stopped clutching for the most part. The females do not clutch, and neither do they run. The males do not chase, and they are much akin to white dragons in many respects. They are the only wher not more prone to being instinct driven. They are highly intelligent, capable of much more concise, clear speech, and have no problem speaking with dragons, or any other creature. They prefer peace to fighting, but are not to be deemed cowardly. They are astonishingly brave and have a very strong need to prove they are every inch as valuable and capable as any other color. They are rare enough that it can't be known what sort of person they bond to--if they are allowed to live by the wher whose clutch ends up with one in it.
