The southern continent has been explored, and on it life is thriving. In the humid-sub-tropical part of the vast southern continent, Bayou Weyr has been established. The Weyr has been cleared of greens, but the surrounding area is lush and full of vital life. The people who have grown here in Dorshin Hold off of the Great Bay have been raised by superstitions. An old, respectable, elderly man had collapsed, his voice was caught shrieking out on the wind by the Holdfolk. He spoke of dragons, of the Weyr, of the Hold, and the warning that he brought. He rattled of dragons that would be the abomination of Pern.
In his psychosis, the man brushed crudely painted portraits of the said dragons with his fingers.
The Hold Lord banished him, and the Weyr thought nothing of his nonsense. They had no time to worry about some dementia-ridden harper who claimed to have predicted some abhorred outcome of the aging queen's last clutch. Corhinth had flown long and high, and despite the gamblings of forty or so, only twenty five have turned up on the blazing sands. Much to the Weyrfolk's rejoice, one of them shines gold.

Although Southern Weyr prospered, the dragonriders came to agree that another Weyr on the vast Southern Continent would provide excellent care in case of Threadfall. It's true that the Southern Continent does have the grubs, but caution towards the plentiful vegetation has driven the riders to fill another Weyr of dragons and riders. This, though, was a good two-hundred-ish turns ago, after the long-interval that Pern experienced. Bayou Weyr was crafted in the beginning of the 10th interval, around 2561. Problems with wild felines ran amuck, but it has since settled down.
The transfer dragonriders who chose to go to Bayou Weyr were surprised with a lush and comfortable climate, although the blistering summers was something that they'd have to get used to. No trouble has marred the history of Bayou Weyr yet, yes, there was an incident of poisoned water due to some feline carcass that was unproperly disposed of, and yes, the young Jr. Weyrwomen both lost their lives with the untimely chance of dear Ferra's Gold coming between in the middle of Nareen-Terruth's flight, but nothing cataclysmic has wrecked the Weyr, or, that hasn't happened yet.
The current turn is 2756, a few turns before the 10th Pass is supposed to arrive. The starstone had been measuring the distance of the Red Star, and sure enough, it's pulling close on schedule. The threats of the old, senile elder are kept quiet at the Weyr, simply because it's preposterous to believe. Now and then, though, the Weyr will find some brutal painting or sketch of those forseen dragons done by a Weyrbrat or Candidate on their walls or on loose parchment. Again, the old Weyrleaders see is as nothing but a superstition.
